Customer service very poor.No stars should be a option.
Builder/Buyer Beware
If they weren't simply looking to just "make a dollar" they would see how close they are building the houses to one another and disclose lot easements to the buyer so they know what they are getting themselves into with issues planting trees, putting up fences, etc.
Needless to say, our first time home buyer/building experience has been far from magical. I hope this review helps others during their decision making process.
To keep this short and sweet; the biggest issues we had came at the time of closing. We did our final walk through prior to closing and pointed out numerous issues; all of which we were informed would be cared for in a prompt manor "after" our closing. This was a huge mistake on our part. We should have never closed until the issues were taken care of. Let's just say if you're looking for a building company who pays close attention to detail, this is NOT the builder you want to go with.
Got to see these guys build a house next door to us. Went up ridiculously quick and got to hear the workers constantly yelling "who the hell measured this?!" I'm in the market for a new home and will absolutely pass on these guys after watching the show next door. Already feel weary for whoever moves in to that house.
It's a shame, customer service has simply gone out the window. Matters that are over 6 months old are still waiting to be addressed. We chose to go the route of building a home vs. buying an already existing so we did not have to deal with people coming in and out of our house to take care of issues. Unfortunately, we have people coming in and out all the time and issues are still not resolved.
We built our home through Van's Construction about 12 years ago. The plumber mixed up the hot and cold in our garage faucet- cold comes out when the hot knob is turned, hot comes out when the cold knob is turned. We were told, "It is no big deal, it is an easy fix." My dad who is a pipe fitter was able to fix it for us finally. We also have a caulk patch on our main bath tub that we have never been able to get off and it was completely ignored. The cabinets are cheap that they install too! It is really too much to get into. I tell all my friends to never build through Van's. Oh, and Acre Realty, Marcia is not personable at all. She made $7,000 selling the house to us and did not even see her at closing.
I would like to point out that I am not pointing blame specifically on the contractors who work for Van's, there could be underlying issues as to why they are not giving their 110% on their work.
Prior to making the decision to build a home, my husband and I did our research to see if there were any reviews out there about this company. After checking on numerous reputable sites, we did not find any reviews (good or bad). This is why I have made the decision to utilize social media and reputation sites to share our experience. Had there been reviews out there, we might not be dealing with the numerous headaches that we are currently dealing with today.
Van's could easily save themselves time and money if they did a thorough walk through of their homes and a thorough cleaning prior to the close. This would allow them the opportunity to see the areas where there is no paint, where there are paint drips, and sloppy painting in general; where there are nicks and cuts on wood where there shouldn't be. If they paid closer attention to detail during the build they would notice painting was done too soon after the plastering was done, causing the paint to chip and the wall to crumble by a simple small nail to hang a picture.
