Staff were friendly, if a little difficult to communicate with. The hotel itself didn't have any major problems, and is maintained. But, the lighting is rough. Harsh some places, dim and yellow in others. Very weird.
When we made our reservation, we asked for handicap room which was unfulfilled. The room that my parents stayed in had 1 safety bar and the bed was blocking part of the entrance into the room, that made it really hard for my mom on her walker to get in there. We also asked for a room close to or down the hall for me because as her PCA , I needed to be close. I ended up on the second floor. We also went to try and soak in the hot tub, but it was broken with caution tape all around. Based on the past reviews, it's been broken for a couple months which is insane!! The pool was a grayish color. The continental breakfast was put out as a after thought, and I HATED the fact that it felt like the front desk staff was policing you if you wanted to bring a cup of juice out.

Terrible. Rooms are dingy and falling apart, the hallways weren't properly heated, the front desk clerk made my brother wait for me in -10 whether outside (couldn't wait in the lobby), the coffee was terrible, the fruit were wilted, the breakfast offering was hardly a breakfast. Last time I will ever stay here. Would not recommend to anyone, unless they are looking for a cheap stay. The ppol hoise had almost no ventilation and there was condisation all over the ceiling dripping on everything. Surprisingly, the sheets were clean. I'll give credit for that.
When I first arrived they didn't realize that I made a reservation a week ahead of time. Or that I requested a late check out. They TAKE $100 DEPOSIT Off YOUR CREDIT CARD ahead of time just in case of damages!! This is when you get there so it was a big surprise!!The HOT TUB did not work properly!!! My room smelled musty, there was snot on my headboard and one on the shower wall and had mold!! On the positive side the staff is friendly, breakfast is AWESOME, and the decorations are nice!!
I enjoyed my stay at Howard Johnson in Appleton. I was there with my family, Wife and 3 kids. We chose the 2 Queen beds room. Even though it seemed larger in the picture, it was still spacious. The room was clean and well maintained. The amenities were as advertised and well maintained. I received excellent service from the start. I would stay there again and I would recommend it to others who wish to stay in Appleton.
